The producers of the hit series "Arrow" weighs in on one of the shows iconic character, the Black Canary, which they plan on bringing back to the show. This has raised speculations that there will be a new character that will play the heroine.
According to TVLine, the TV series' co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim said during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the promo for episode 10 of season 5 lays the foundation in which the direction they want the show to go. "I would say that the episode ends with laying a very specific seed, with a very specific game plan on our part that we hope to see come to fruition," he said.
With the Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) that appeared in the end of season 5's midseason finale actually an enemy, writer and producer Wendy Mericle told TVLine that there still "definitely a possibility" that Black Canary will be returning to the show.
She said that it's hard to do a Green Arrow show without the heroine, but adds that she doesn't know when the Black Canary will be returning to the show. She did say that they plan to be true to origins of the DC Universe.
With the producers saying that Black Canary will return to the show, Rose Moore of Screen Rant said that it's good news for comic book fans, as it is hard to imagine Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) without a relationship with Dinah Lance. She wonders, though, whether Cassidy will be reprising that role or if an entirely new character will be playing the heroine.
Moore said if a new Canary will be introduced, it could be a source of frustrations for fans as it will feel like there would be too many Canary characters. But she adds it will be worth it if it results in an accurate comic-book representation of Green Arrow.
