The food world has many crazes from the kitschy to creative and smoked water is the latest fascination.
Dailypost.co.uk reported that Anglesey Sea Salt was approached by famed UK chef, Heston Blumenthal to create smoked water for his prize winning, world famous restaurant near London, The Fat Duck.
The smoked water went on sale three weeks ago at the Abergavenny food festival, Dailypost.co.uk reported.
The water is smoked over four days in an oak smokery and the water subsequently soaks in the flavor of the smoke.
David Lea-Wilson, director at Anglesey Sea Salt, told The Daily Post. "This was tried as a curiosity but has really caught on," "We have been very busy with orders, and it has even seen us take an extra part-time staff member on to meet the demand."
The water, which is a pale yellow hue, can be purchased online at halenmon.com and costs approximately $2.40.
Yahoo Shine reported Lea-Wilson saying about the flavor infusions of the water "The Fat Duck uses it in their cooking, as far as I know, to add smoky flavor to potatoes or seafood," He said. "The chefs I spoke to at the recent Restaurant Show are interested in using it for marinating and poaching."
Yahoo Shine also reported him saying that the water is used well also in cocktails.
Yahoo Shine reported that people in the food biz are thinking of the new smoked water as a substitute for liquid smoke which often has added chemicals and is artificially flavored.
