One of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year will be joined by a best-selling singer and 10-time Grammy awardee as singers of its title track. A live-action remake of the much-loved "Beauty and the Beast" will be gracing the screens this coming March, and none other than Ariana Grande and John Legend are singing the title song made popular by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson in 1991.
The song, whose music was written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, won not only a Golden Globe and Grammy Award, but also an Academy Award for the Best Song Category. For the new rendition, Variety reports that Ron Fair is the producer. It was Mitchell Leib, president of Music and Soundtrack at Disney who brought on Fair, Grande and Legend to bring about a new version of the song.
The rest of the songs in the soundtrack have also been recorded anew, and the film score is still done by Alan Menken, who is known for his work in film scores, especially in Disney movies such as "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin", "Tangled", and of course "Beauty and the Beast." The live-action film will also three new additional songs, so fans of the animated film should watch out for them.
Coming Soon reports that Ron Fair claims it was not easy to step into the shoes of the song's original singers, but with the caliber brought on by John Legend and Ariana Grande, he is sure that the new version will truly touch the hearts of those who will hear it.
The live-action adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" will star none other than Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast. It will open on theaters on March 17, 2017 while the soundtrack for the film will be released on March 10.
