It just got one step easier for travelers to get to the debaucherous Full Moon Party on Thailand's Koh Phangan island. Now, the island known for buckets of booze on the beach, techno tunes and swarms of young backpackers and Thai locals alike, will soon get its own airport, reports CNN Go.
CNN Go reported that Kan Air, which is a regional flight operator based in Bangkok will be building an airport on the island next year. The Bangkok Post reported that they would be spending 700 million baht or U.S. $22 million on the airport.
CNN Go reported that Kan Air would be bringing flights also to Koh Samui and Koh Tao.
The Bangkok Post reported, "Construction is in full swing and, when the airport is up and running in the second half of next year, it will provide for the first time direct air access to Koh Phangan's larger sister island Koh Samui to the south and the smaller Koh Tao to the north."
Construction of the airport has already begun, reported CNN Go, and it is expected to be done by the second half of 2013.
The popular full moon party on the idyllic island has become somewhat of a young, hedonistic paradise for vacationers with up to 30,000 peopole visiting the island from December to March, CNN Go reported.
There is currently not airport on the island now and visitors have to access the island by boat which takes 30 to 45 minutes on a speedboat from Koh Samui or there is a five our journey from the island of Surat Thani.
The Bangkok Post reported that the airline is reportedly considering having three 80 minute flights a day and the airport will be located on the eastern side of the island.
