A man who has been stranded in Hawaii after being told he was on the no-fly list at the airport has finally been allowed to leave.
The Sun Herald reported that Wade E. Hicks Jr. 34, from Gulfport Mississippi was stranded for six days in Hawaii over a no-fly order. He flew into San Francisco International Airport on Friday after he had been cleared.
Hicks was on his way to Japan to see his wife, who is a Navy lieutenant in Okinawa and said according to The Sun Herald that no one had explained to him why he was placed on the no-fly list.
The Sun Herald also reported that no one has explained to him why he was taken off the list.
"Hicks had driven to Travis Air Force Base in San Francisco last week and boarded a flight as a military dependent on stand-by. The plane landed on the island of Oahu at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, for a cleaning and refueling layover. Hicks said U.S. Customs and Enforce," said The Sun Herald.
The Associated Press reported that he was stuck in Hawaii at his own expense and he has now filed under the Freedom of Information Act to find answers from TSA and the Department of Homeland Security to why he was put on the no-fly list.
"They have not apologized nor given me any reason," Hicks said according to the AP. The AP reported that Hicks believes he was put on the list because of his "outspoken views."
The AP reported that Hicks has worked for a military contractor. He said he had a "high-level security clearances," and that received a permit that would allow him to carry a concealed weapon and "cleared an FBI background check on the firearm permit last month."
The AP reported that the no-fly list now contains approximately 20,000 people with about 500-600 Americans and on the list includes information about terrorists who aren't allowed to fly.
