YouTube Goes Down Temporarily, Twitter Goes Into a Panic

YouTube shut Down! For an undetermined reason, the popular video sharing site stopped working, showings its millions of users an error message. The error lasted for less than 15 minutes, but the temporary shut down sent the internet into panic mode.

Those who tried to use YouTube on Thursday afternoon were greeted with a message that read:

"500 Internal Server Error

Sorry, something went wrong.

A team of highly trained monkeys had been dispatched to deal with this situation.

If you see them, show them this information."

It then showed a very long series of laters or numbers.

The error didn't last more than 15 minutes, but many noticed

Twitter quickly blew up with worldwide top trending topics "Is YouTube" and "YouTube is Down."

Those took to Twitter to express their disappointment and show their panic.

Some tweets included:

"YOUTUBE IS DOWN AND IM DYING."

"youtube is down. i think its a good reason to jump in a ditch.#whyyoutubewhy"

"Whoa, YouTube is down. Where will we go for our inappropriate trolling comments fix!? "

"youtube is down this is the worst thing ever"

"OMG. #YouTube is down. That Mayan calendar thing is real..."

Just as these tweets and the thousands more started a trend on the social networking site, the error was fixed and YouTube was back up and functioning.

The 500 Internal Server Error is a general message that appears as the problem is fixed.

This isn't the first time the error was seen on YouTube. It happens every now and then, sometimes knocking the site out for up to an hour or two.

According to The Windows Club, this error may occur due to piracy issues. The site says "this error occurred once because YouTube was trying to implement some new security features to stop piracy and other threats to the site. These changes might include stopping the users from downloading the videos, removal of copy-righted stuff, etc. So, this could cause the server the downtime resulting in a 500 Internal Server Error. "

Stop panicking. YouTube is back up for everyone's viewing, listening, uploading, and commenting pleasure.
