The long-awaited release date of the Microsoft Surface tablet has been revealed along with the price.
Microsoft's Surface with Windows RT tablet will be released on October 26. Customers who want this new product can already pre-order it on Surface.com. However, according to Gotta Be mobile, the tablet has already sold out in pre-order. The initial supply of the 32GB version sold out within 24 hours of being put up for pre-order, showing early promise for the device.
When the tablet hits stores on October 26, prices will start at $499 for a 32GB version. For $599, customers can get the 32GB version with a Touch Cover keyboard. A 64GB Surface tablet which comes with a Touch Cover will cost $699. The Touch Cover by itself will cost $120 and the Type Cover keyboard will cost $130. They will come in various colors.
One of the unique features about the Microsoft Surface is the keyboard addition, which most tablets, like the iPad, do not come with.
While Microsoft is hoping the Surface tablet will be promising, Apple is giving them a run for their money. Apple will supposedly reveal their new iPad Mini and their 13-inch Retina Macbook on November 2.
The Windows Surface RT comes with the Windows RT operating system and a Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview. It measures at 10.81 x 6.77 x 0.37in and weighs 1.5lbs. It has a 10.6" ClearType HD Display with 1366x768 pixels. Another version will feature the Windows 8 operating system.
When compared with the current iPad, which has a larger display of 2048x1536, some have challenged the Microsoft's Surface display.
However Microsoft's Steven Bathiche tried to argue that the Surface has some power over the iPad when it comes to display.
"Doing a side by side with the new iPad in a consistently lit room, we have had many people see more detail on Surface RT than on the Ipad with more resolution," Bathiche told CNET.
The Surface's prices are right along the lines of the prices for the current iPad, but the Surface has double the memory.
