The only thing everybody expects to withdraw from an Automated Teller Machine is cash. Soon however, people nationwide will be able to withdraw pizzas from an ATM.
ATMs have been dispensing cash since they were invented. Recently though, a vending machine called a Pizza ATM has been dispensing pizzas instead.
Since it was first reported in August, Xavier University has been the only place so far in North America that has a Pizza ATM. Xavier University was a captive market and now the concept of a Pizza vending machine is ready to be spread across the continent.
According to travel and culinary website Thrillist, Alec Verlin, product representative for Pizza ATM said that, since the fall, colleges and businesses in 20 states and Canada have expressed interest in buying their own Pizza ATM. He revealed that the first few successors to the original Pizza ATM of XU, will begin rolling out across the US and Canada in January.
Verlin mentioned that they purposely pushed back distribution for everyone. They were not prepared for the volume of inquiries.
The first Pizza ATM in North America made its initial appearance in Xavier University last summer. The innovative vending machine was supplied by Paline, a French company.
The construction of the Pizza ATM was first reported by WCPO. A month later, in September, the vending machine was introduced at XU. The introduction surprisingly generated a media frenzy.
Jennifer Paiotti, marketing director of auxiliary services for XU said that after WCPO published its story on August 4, reporters came in droves. There were more than 3,000 newspapers, cable networks, national news magazines and other media outlets that wanted to report on the story. Paiotti said she was still giving one or two interviews per week regarding the Pizza ATM.
The consumer interest has sparked demand for the Pizza ATM. It has resulted in many inquiries on purchasing one of the vending machines. Paiotti said that at last count, she had hundreds of discussions for wanting to utilize the same technology and machine.
