A one-time baggage handler at American Airlines at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York has received life in prison on Tuesday Oct 16. The Associated Press reported that Victor Borne ,37, received the sentence because of his roll in a drug smuggling operation through JFK Airport.
He received the sentence in Brooklyn at Federal court after being found guilty last year that he "used his behind-the-scenes access at New York City's busiest airport to orchestrate the smuggling of more than 330 pounds of cocaine from 2000 and 2009."
Borne who is from Barbados was accused of recruiting a crew of airport employees to be a part of his smuggling ring.
News.com.au said that Borne practiced Voodoo. They also reported that the judge sentenced him to three life sentences and 35 years extra for endagenering American Airlines Passengers.
US District Court Judge Nicholas Garaufis said to news.com.au. "The need to protect the public from these kinds of dangers requires a long sentence/"
The AP reported that Bourne had made millions of dollars "in drug proceeds he laundered through business ventures in Brooklyn and Barbados."
With Bourne's sentencing a federal investigation went underway which has caused the conviction of 20 individuals in total. 19 of them are airlines employess, reported the AP.
News.com.au reports that the drugs smuggled were stored inside the walls and stored around the airport in areas that could have caused harm to flight equipment.
"In one case the drug smugglers actually disabled a plane's wing to hide drugs inside," reported news.com.au.
