A former Norwegian Cruise Line assistant cruise director will face nine years in federal prison for possessing child pornography and having sex with a 16-year-old passenger.
Senad Djedovic, 29, of Bosnia was employed by Norwegian from 2005 until March 2012. He was working on the Norwegian Star which left Tampa on January 29 for a seven day cruise to the Caribbean.
One the ship, he met a Minnesota teen who was on vacation with her parents. He met up with the girl after the ship stopped in Costa Maya, Mexico and the two shared a sexual encounter in a staircase of the ship according to Tampa Bay Online. Djedovic knew the girl was underage when the incident occurred.
When the cruise was over, Djedovic continued to e-mail the girl and asked for sexually explicit photos. She complied and sent him several inappropriate photos.
In one email, Djedovic wrote "I wish you said yes way earlier than the last day because we would have way more fun. I miss you big time ... you little young girl," according to TBO.
Djedovic showed some of the photos to his co-workers and upon realizing how old she was, they reported him to the ship's security. Norwegian contacted the FBI.
When investigators seized Djedovic's computer and hard drives, they found over 600 images that included children under the age of 12. He also had videos of children engaging in sexual activity. The FBI found at least 13 photos of the girl that he met on Djedovic's work computer.
Defense attorney Mark O'Brien said Djedovic is "physically and mentally immature for his age." He said that as a child Djedovic he "was not allowed to leave his city as it was surrounded with the violent conflict of war. Bloodshed was common and the defendant bore witness every day to atrocities no one should see."
Djedovic pleaded guilty to possessing child porn on June 18. He was engaged to be married when he was arrested, but he is no longer.
