We've seen the trend where millennials take photos of their food with their iPhones and iPads, but this Michelin-starred restaurant is taking it to the next level further enhancing the craze among hipsters. Quince restaurant owner and chef Michael Tusk cooked up a dish called "A Dog in Search of Gold" which is served on top of the iPad.
Tusk posted it on his Instagram account saying, "A dog in search of gold, Luke Bartels designed the enclosure which protects the iPad," he started. "Simply telling the story of a dog searching for truffles, a small snack to start dinner that includes a chestnut crisp and a celeriac, porcini and ricotta "truffle" dusted with porcini powder- we have done this dish two years straight," Tusk added.
Before anyone bolts out of the room calling it unhealthy and bizarre, Tusk explained that there is a cover on top of the iPad before inserting it into a box. "The iPad slips in and out of the box and we designed a sheath that is cleaned after each order. The food does not directly sit on top of the iPad at all," he shared.
And since it's 'A Dog in Search of Gold,' a video is played of a dog hunting for its prey. Once you are finished with your meal, Tusk said, "The iPads are removable and sit on top of a cleanable screen that is sanitized after every order."
This is not the first time someone used the Apple product as a plate. Spanish chef Elena Arzak, one of the world's best women chefs, has concocted this idea in 2013 at San Sebastian with her father. Arzak came from a long line of family chefs that has been known to be innovative in the food industry.
So, when you're around San Francisco or San Sebastian, try experiencing a taste of this dish best served in an Ipad.
