In yet another social media death hoax, Johnny Depp has falsely been proclaimed dead.
E! Online reported that the 49-year-old star had died in a drowning accident on the set of his new movie, "Lone Ranger."
Hollywoodlife.com reported that the death of another crew member on set caused the confusion. TMZ reported that Mike Bridger, a crew member died on the set of the film while he was cleaning a pool and went into cardiac arrest. He died on Sept. 21.
A Walt Disney spokesperson said to TMZ, "We regretfully confirm that a Lone Ranger crew member has passed away after being taken to a local hospital."
Johnny Depp however, is alive. This isn't the first time the internet has proclaimed the prolific actor dead. Hollywoodlife.com reported that in 2010 a fake website reported that he died in an accident in France.
"The Lone Ranger" is a Western flick by Disney directed by Gore Verbinski. The film stars Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger. Armie Hammer is most famous for his roll in "The Social Network" where he played the Winklevoss twins.
In June, Depp and his long-time girlfriend Vanessa Paradis split up after 14 years making headlines. The duo has three children together. Depp's rep said to Entertainment Tonight, "Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children."
The past few months have seen a trend of celebrity death hoaxs surfacing on social media including Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphey and Lil' Wayne amongst others.
