Thus, it becomes a controversial topic to even mention what it houses as in truth, nobody really knows

The Vatican Secret Archives is home to very crucial information such as correspondence, state papers, audit books from the papacy and also all other historical documents which has been in the care of the Vatican for hundreds of years. Interestingly, there are only a few people who could access data from this place that even some scholars from different parts of the globe are restricted to enter.

The reason why it was separated from the Vatican Library because it acts much like a gigantic vault, it holds important treasures of the Vatican - treasures in the form of information and historical records that may be too classified for all to see.

A report from Mental Floss lists down a few of the known historical pieces found inside the secret archives. One is the petition from the 1530s which requests for the annulment of the marriage between Catherine of Aragon and King Henry VIII of England. There are also letters and correspondence between the Pope and historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Mary, Queen of the Scotts. It is also home to records and anecdotes of trials of popular people such as Galileo, and the Knight's Templar.

However, could it also be home to many of Vatican's secrets? The Week has listed down a few interesting controversies that surround the Holy City. There is a question of whether or not the archives contain records of the most horrifying confessions by man. Or maybe, there are anecdotes of terrifying exorcisms. The questions will remain unanswered, until the Vatican Secret Archives becomes open to public.
