Patrick Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi has started to date again according to People magazine. The magazine confirmed that Niemi, 56, is dating Albert DePrisco, a jeweler.
Swayze passed away in September 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Niemi and Swayze were married for 34 years before Swayze passed away.
Niemi's rep told People magazine that it is "new and they're taking it slow."
People reported that Niemi and her new beau met from a mutual friend during a celebration for Niemi's birthday.
She said to People after Swayze's death, "It became clear to me that someone had put a lot of love into this, for a man I loved so very much."
In 2010 she spoke to People about healing from her husband's death saying, "I know I'm stronger now. The fact that I've had some good days definitely gives me hope that I can have more."
Swayze and Niemi met in Houston, Texas when Swayze was only 18 years-old. "He had been taking dance lessons from Lisa's mother and became taken with his dance instructor's daughter, who was just 15 years old at the time. The two developed a friendship and then became inseparable ever since," reported Fox News.
Fox News reported that Niemi has been an advocate for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN). In June she went to Capital Hill with hundreds of other advocates to meet with congress to make sure the U.S. government takes action against Pancreatic cancer.
"This is going to change," Niemi said according to Fox News. "We are doing our best to make it change this year. My husband died almost three years ago, and the statistics are staying the same. More people are being diagnosed and more are dying every year - and it needs to stop."
