Google Tango Phone: Qualcomm Leaked Asus Zenfone AR

Qualcomm accidentally published a blog post which leaked that Tango-Enabled Phone, Asus ZenFone AR, will be powered by Snapdragon 821 processor. This revelation was supposed to be announced during this week's CES.

According to Android Police, the ZenFone AR will be the second Google Tango phone, following the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. Qualcomm's blog post, which was dated January 4, has since been deleted but a cached version is still live.

"At CES 2017, ASUS announced the ZenFone AR, the world's first Tango-enabled smartphone to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor." Qualcomm's post said. The post also mentioned that the Asus Zenfone AR would give users "hours of augmented reality along with great graphics." The chipset manufacturer also said that the phone promises "high-resolution display, ultra-smooth graphics, and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking."

Since the phone is Daydream-ready, it can support apps like Street View, YouTube, Netflix, HBO, and Hulu, and games like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Need for Speed, Gunjack 2, and Lego BrickHeadz.

Google's Daydream is a work in progress, so not a lot of phones currently support it. If you want to have access to it, you need to have a Pixel phone which should run on Android Nougat. The Moto Z and Moto Z Force have now been updated to Android 7 Nougat, which means these phones will be fully supported for use with Google's Daydream View VR headset.

Notably, the ZenFone AR will be the first phone to combine Tango and Daydream in one, The Verge reported. Based on Qualcomm's accidental post, it seems like this phone will also be compatible with Google's Daydream View headset.

The Consumer Electronics Show will be held in Las Vegas and will officially start Thursday. Fans are in for a technological treat, not just for smartphone launches, but also for TVs, automotive technology, drones, and VR spectacles. Meanwhile, for the full specs of the Asus ZenFone AR, enthusiasts should stay tuned on Wednesday for the company's press conference.
