LeBron James Birthday Wish Is For Michael Jordan Comparisons To Stop

LeBron James will turn 32 this coming Friday, but even if he is getting older, his age has not made him any less dominant as a player. While it is clear that he no longer possesses the same athletic explosiveness that he had when he first came into the league, his brilliant all-around play helped him lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first ever NBA championship after overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the 2016 NBA Finals against the heavily favored Golden State Warriors.

On the eve of his 32nd birthday, the 13-year veteran was asked if he pondered the legendary Michael Jordan at 32. When Jordan was 32, he perhaps had the best season of his career in 1995-1996 when he led the Chicago Bulls to a then-record 72 wins en route to his 4th NBA championship. The Golden State Warriors broke the Bulls' regular season record for wins last season by winning 73 games.

In a report by ESPN, James says he has not compared himself to Jordan at his current age because of the difference in their playing styles. "As much as he was, he was much more of a scorer, and that point did a lot, a lot of post work", said James.

"But our games are just different. His body is different. My body is different than his. So, just, you recognize the dominance that someone had at that age, but there's no similarities to our games at all", added James. The three-time NBA champion would not even allow any comparisons between his and Jordan's fadeaway jumpers saying the latter had more lift in his fadeaway.

Even though it is pretty clear that James does not want to be compared to Michael Jordan in any way, he has stated several times in the past that he is a player whom he has always looked up to. He grew up idolizing Jordan and even wore the same number (23) as the former Chicago Bull since high school.

He even mentioned in an interview with Sports Illustrated how he was "chasing Jordan's ghost", meaning he wants to match Jordan's accomplishments in terms of championships. Jordan won six NBA championships and six NBA Finals MVP awards during his career, while James currently has 3 championships and 3 Finals MVP awards under his belt.

An interview where he talks about the comparisons between his and Jordan's playstyles can be seen below.
