"Pokemon Go" fans who have been eagerly awaiting the release of some Legendary Pokemon. But gamers may have to wait a little bit longer as it seems there will be no Legendary update from Niantic this year. There is still no release date as of this time and the Legendary Pokemon have been absent from the game since its launch, but this could all change by 2017.
With reports coming in stating that no Legendary Pokemon will be released this year, many have begun to speculate that Niantic is probably holding back the release date until spring of next year, right when players are more likely to venture outdoors to go hunt for Pokemon. According to Slashgear, having a spring release date would fit well into the fact that Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno are all bird Pokemon.
Many fans had remained hopeful that Niantic would include the Legendary Pokemon in their Christmas update, but it seems they had other things in mind. However, there is still a slight chance that the one of the Legendary bird Pokemon could get released before the year ends.
According to a report from Mic, Niantic will be launching their special New Year's event on December 30, providing fans with one last chance for a grand surprise before we officially end the year 2016. The New Year's event is meant to help increase the spawn rates of starter Pokemon - namely Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbusaur and their evolved forms. Lure Modules will also last twice as long during the event.
It should be worth noting that Niantic has developed a bit of a reputation for surprising fans with some unexpected features. It would also make a whole lot of thematic sense to release the legendary ice bird, Articuno, during the coldest time of the year.
