Huge Numbers Of Tourists Causes Infrastructure Strain

Thailand is one of the countries whose tourism industry is drastically growing due to the Bangkok attractions. Viewing tourism statistical data of Thailand, there has been an increment from 29.9 million to 32.4 million tourists through 2015/2016 and further increase to about 34 million in 2017. In percentage wise, it is an 8-10% increment in the course of the years regardless of the coup in 2014 and the tourists killing this year.

According to Voanews, despite succeeding in calling in lot more tourists in the country, the flooding of the tourists in the country is causing strain due to poor infrastructures for handling tourists in Thailand. It should clearly be noted that the Infrastructure development will not only cater for tourists handling but will also play an important role in economic growth of the country.

One of the resolutions that Thailand has come up with to develop the infrastructure is a creation of new destinations so as to support tourism. There has been a challenge in the infrastructure of the most visited cities Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket. Kiatipong Ariyapruchya a victim of the surge up with a suggested of expanding the infrastructures of the visited destinations.

As reported by Reuters, due to the increase in booking to as twice as compared to other peak seasons, the airports have been facing congestion. Sunsane gave her opinion on the congestion problem saying that there would rather be a buildup in counter checkpoints and immigration than in the main airport duty areas. To help reduce the congestion the government has set aside $5billion that will help in the expansion of its six main airports in the total time of 15 years.

According to the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Index, Thailand that formerly ranked 38 has now experienced an 11 steps drop to rank 49 in the year 2016/2017 which signifies pressure and strain on its infrastructure system especially in this peak travel season.
