People get pretty creative with proposals these days. Some propose at sunset on a beach, some propose at a fancy dinner and some even create flashmobs. One man thought it would be a good idea to propose to his girlfriend while faking a plane crash. The moment was caught on camera and the video has gone viral on YouTube.
Carlie Kennedy went through a serious of emotions when she thought she was going to die in a plane piloted by her boyfriend Ryan Thompson in Chicago. The entire thing was captured on video and posted to YouTube in February. There are no words in the video, but there is music and captions that describe what happens.
The couple appears happy and smiling at first as they enjoy the plane ride on a beautiful day.
"I thought he was surprising me for Valentine's Day," Kennedy told Good Morning America. "It was a gorgeous day, as you can see in the video."
Suddenly the plane starts to shake and terror starts to take over Kennedy as Thompson tells her to read an emergency checklist.
"All of a sudden I felt my stomach kind of go up in my throat and I realized we were heading straight for the water," Kennedy said. "And then he said, 'Honey, I need you to stay calm. The flight controls aren't working.'"
Thompson hands over the checklist to Kennedy and tells her to read it. Shaken up and nervous, Kennedy starts to read the list that outlines the emergency guidelines "to initiate the ring engagement procedure."
Kennedy continues to read the list which says "Pilot in command. Determine if he is a good mate. Note: he will always love and honor you."
Kennedy was too shaken up to understand what the letter was getting at as she was still under the impression that she was about to die in a plane crash.
"I genuinely did believe that we were going to die," she said, recounting the moment. "I felt like our lives depended on me making it through that checklist."
Kennedy proceeds to read the "ring engagement procedure" and sees the question "Will you marry me?" It takes her a few seconds to grasp the fact that the plane isn't actually crashing and that her boyfriend just proposed.
Thompson pulls out a ring and Kennedy laughs and glances over at it. Thompson asks if she will marry him.
She said yes. And she wasn't even mad about the plane crash scare.
"A lot of the women that I've told the story [to] said, 'I would have slapped him,'" Kennedy told Good Morning America.
"But, for us, it was a perfect match," said Thompson.
