'Pokemon Go' Christmas Update Event Gets Special Update From Niantic

The special Christmas event of "Pokemon Go" went live on Christmas Day and players were given free incubators when they visited their first PokeStop. This is not the only surprise that Niantic has in store for players, though, because a Special Box update has now been made available. The new update provides players with more new items that they can get from the store.

Niantic will be releasing Special, Ultra, and Great boxes starting from Christmas Day up until the afternoon of December 30. Some of the items that can be found in the boxes include Great balls, Ultra balls, Incense, and Incubators.

And starting on the afternoon of December 30, they will be releasing Bronze, Silver, and Gold boxes. The Bronze, Silver, and Gold boxes will last until the afternoon of January 3. Items found in these boxes include Great balls, Lucky Eggs, and Lure Modules.

Other updates for the game's Christmas event will go live on December 30, and players will have a much better chance of capturing Charmander, Bulbasaur, Venusaur, Ivysaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Squirtle, and Blastoise. During the event Lure Modules will also last for 60 minutes instead of the standard 30 minutes.

The special Santa hat-wearing Pikachu's can also be caught at a much better rate once the update goes live and players will also have an increased chance of hatching a Togepi and other Pokemon. According to a report from The Mirror, the update will also bring with it some additional new Pokemons such as Magby and Pichu - both of whom can only be obtained by hatching them from eggs.

The game's startup screen has also received a bit of an overhaul and features Squirtle, Snorlax, and Clefairy putting up Christmas lights. In a statement released in the game's official website, Niantic thanked fans for their continued support of Pokemon Go as they "race towards 2017."
