When booking hotels, travelers often look for ways to get the best deals. According to a new survey, most travelers book hotels far in advance to save money.
According to a survey conducted by GO Airport Express, one of the largest airport transportation providers, 45 percent of travelers book hotel rooms far in advance to save money on hotels.
The survey asked 620 travelers about what they do to save on hotels rooms. They had a variety of answers in addition to booking early.
Thirty one percent of respondents said that they use organization member discounts such as AAA and AARP to get a good hotel room discount. Some go to online travel discount sites such as Priceline.com as 26 percent of respondent reported. Twenty-five percent of respondents said they use hotel loyalty programs to save money.
Fifteen percent of repondents said they get good negotiated corporate rates for hotels. Eleven percent said they wait to travel during off peak times. Another 11 percent use frequent flyer points towards hotels.
While most people book far in advanced for a discount, 7 percent of people said they look for last minute deals.
Six percent of people said they use all of these techniques to get deals on hotels while 12 percent said they don't use any special strategies to save money.
Those who took the survey were also able to write their own answers that weren't on the choices. Some said that they use government discounts and get discounted ratesthat are offered through convention sites.
"It appears savvy travelers are using a combination of tools to get the best deals," says John McCarthy, president, GO Airport Express.
An earlier Go Airport Express survey questioned what people are willing to pay more for when it comes to travel. It showed that people are willing to pay more for extra leg room, peace and quiet and Wi-Fi access on flights.
