Ann Romney's Plane Makes an Emergency Landing After Electrical Fire

Ann Romney, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's wife, was on a plane Friday that made an emergency landing.

The plane made an emergency landing Friday afternoon after smoke started to fill the cabin. There was reportedly an electrical fire that forced the plane to make a detour. The flight was on its way from Omaha, Nebraska to Los Angeles, California according to campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul.

No injuries were reported and both Ann Romney and Mitt Romney made speeches right after the incident. Rick Gork a spokesperson who was traveling with Ann Romney said to The Huffington Post that Mrs. Romney had spoken with her husband and told him that everything was fine.

Ann Romney's spokeswoman, Sarah Haley, said that smoke started to fill the cabin about halfway through the flight to Santa Monica. Crew members spoke with two Secret Service agents on board and immediately made the call to land in Denver. Haley said that the descent lasted about ten minutes and the sole flight attendant used a fire extinguisher to control the smoke billowing in the cabin.

Haley said to The LA Times that they did not see any smoke but the plane smelled like rubber and the smoke caused eye irritation in some passengers.

Everyone deplaned the smoking plane after 2:25 local time. The plane, a Challenger 600, was rerouted to land in Denver around 2:20 p.m. when smoke filled the cabin. The plane was greeted by Denver fire and police officials.

Romney attended a fundraiser and ralley on Friday in Nevada and is headed to Calfornia for weekend fundraisers.
