Vince Vaughn is dead. At least that's what the internet says. However, Vince Vaughn isn't really dead. He's just the latest victim of an internet death hoax.
Fans of the "Wedding Crashers" actor might be a bit alarmed as they see people take to Twitter and Facebook to mourn the death of Vince Vaughn, but these messages are just rumors. The actor is alive and well.
Global Assocated News, which is known for posting fake death reports says "Actor Vince Vaughn died while on a personal vacation in Turks and Caicos early this morning from injuries sustained in a Jet-Ski accident - September 19, 2012."
In a further search, fans may have found the Necropedia entry that says "Vince Vaughn, born on March 28, 1970 in Minneapolis, was an American actor, screenwriter and producer. He died on September 21, 2012, at the age of 42.
Friends and family are mourning the loss of a loved one."
September 21 hasn't even happened yet and Vaughn definitely didn't die in a jet ski accident.
A message on the bottom of the Global Associated News articles says "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"
Necropedia shows an "anticipated obituary," which is "an obituary written BEFORE the death of a person. It is common for news agencies to keep pre-written obituary for public figures, famous and high-profile people who are still alive."
Vaughn did appear in the locker room of the 49ers along with fellow actor Owen Wilson over the weekend after the 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions.
Yet fans continue to believe the story as it spreads and many share it with their friends. Some people took to Twitter to mourn and question the death of the actor. Some Tweets include:
"Vince Vaughn died!?!?!? This is the worst news I've ever heard"
"Cant believe Vince Vaughn died"
"News reports are saying Vince Vaughn died in a jet ski accident today... PLEASE let this be another rumor. "
Don't worry fans.Vince Vaughn is just fine. He was recently in the film "The Watch" and he is filming a movie called "The Internship."
Vaughn isn't the only celebrity to be killed off by the internet or social media recently.
Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants, country singer Taylor Swift, comedian Adam Sandler, legendary actor Morgan Freeman, Comedian Bill Cosby, Alfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince, and Bill Nye the Science Guy have all been victims of death hoaxes within the past few weeks. All of these celebrities are just fine.
