Most travelers wait until the off-peak season comes officially for their vacation spot of choice. Saving up on airfare, accommodations, and even activities in-location stack up nicely when target vacation spots are in need of more numbers of travelers when it is "dull season." The option for longer stays and seamless land travel abounds for travelers with great off-peak season timing.
According to GO Banking Rates, travelers can do more and spend less when traveling off-peak season because airfare is cheapest during this time. Citing information from The Washington Post -- domestic airfare rates to other countries become higher in the summer and will fall steadily right in between summer and the holiday season.
Because of smaller traveler numbers, airlines are forced to price-down their luxury seating -- enabling travelers who may want to go first class to do so without much trouble. But the joy is in the economy class. Owning an "economy row" for the price of one regular economy during off-peak season is rare but enjoyable.
According to US News, off-season travel has some pros and cons. The news website agrees that cost-savings are a great advantage during the off-peak season. Citing Senior Vice President for AAA Travel and Publishing Bill Sutherland, hotels and other accommodations need to lure more customers during this period. He also said customers are likely to enjoy an intimate vacation experience without the huge crowds and with fewer guests, the hotels would issue discounts -- sometimes even on the spot -- to make you stay a little bit longer.
The only issue is, some countries go off-season for a reason; that may be hazardous weather or weaker environment conditions. Bill Sutherland recommends purchasing travel insurance "in case inclement weather disrupts your trip." US News adds that national parks, shops, restaurants, and even resorts may close during this season. But for summer destinations that grow to extreme temperatures, the area automatically goes into off-peak season during summer, making them a less troublesome bet for a nice beach vacation.
