"The Good Place" is now back after being off the air for eight weeks. However, the good news is not as good since the episodes were shortened to 13 episodes instead of the usual 22.
The show's creator Michael Schur of the "Parks and Recreation" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" fame has the answer. According to Schur, the 13-episode season was his plan from the beginning.
He said, "When I pitched the show to NBC, I felt pretty strongly it was kind of a big swing, and everything was gonna be really heavily serialized." He added that it felt like sensible to keep a shorter season and NBC has agreed to it as per TV Line.
The normal run for any sitcom is 22 episodes but the show creator believes that "The Good Place" is not one of those sitcoms. The show has to be compressed only in 13-episode season. He also said that the plot is harder to spread out into 22 or 24 seasons.
The cast has also signed for a shorter season because most of them have been working on a 22-episode show, so basically, most of them are exhausted. He informed that "The Good Place" episodes will still be 13 even if it gets renewed for another season.
The comedy show stars Kristen Bell who was a woman erroneously placed in a heaven-like afterlife. The plot tells of a place where the good people go when they die. Bell arrives there but she feels that she does not belong in the place. The interesting part is how she justifies her stay in the place intended for the "holy" ones.
It will return on Jan. 5 at 8:30/7:30c. It will only be for the remaining four episodes to complete the 13. What do you think of "The Good Place" episodes? Are they enough to satisfy the viewers?
