A bomb threat at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge has forced thousands of students and staff to evacuate the area on Monday.
An alert was posted on the campus website that said, "A bomb threat has been reported on the LSU campus. Please evacuate as calmly and quickly as possible. Check lsu.edu for updates. It is important for all members of the LSU community -- faculty, staff and students -- to remain off campus unless specifically instructed to return."
State police and bomb technicians are reportedly currently on the scene. Police have not provided further details of the threat.
Classes and a news conference were canceled Monday because of the threat and the evacuation also closed down the LSU Laboratory School which is a on-campus college prep school.
The university is home to 30,000 students and staff members. Captain Doug Cain of the Lousiana State Police said that police are talking to their team in other states where university bomb threats have been reported last week to find out if there are similarities in the cases.
Various campuses around the country have become victims of bomb threats as of late including campuses in University of Texas in Austin, and North Dakota State in Fargo that were evacuated on Friday after receiving bomb threats. No explosives were found at either university.
