Carnival Cruise Line's Future Carnival Vacations Program is coming to an end. The program that gives passengers the option of buying certificates to be used towards a future cruise will be discontinued.
According to Cruise Critic, the program, which began in 2008, will stop due to a lack of interest. A document on GoCCL, Carnival's travel agent site, says that the cruise line will eliminate the program after "careful consideration."
The program will officially come to an end on September 27. However existing certificates will still be accepted until their expiration date.
Cruise Critic spoke with Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen who said that while the certificate program is ending, passengers are still able to confirm bookings for a future cruise while on certain ships. Bookings that are made on board will qualify for the $200 per cabin bonus which goes towards onboard purchased on the next cruise.
This option will only be available on certain cruises. Passengers on Carnival Imagination, Carnival Inspiration, Carnival Sensation, Carnival Spirit and Carnival Victory will not be able to take advantage of the future bookings bonus as these ships will not have Future Carnival Vacation desks.
Many other cruise lines have benefits to booking a future cruise while on board. Norwegian's NCL Freestyle Cruise Reward Deposit allows passengers to make a $250 deposit towards any cruise within 48 months and receive a $100 onboard credit on the future cruise.
Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Princess Cruises and Disney Cruises also offer future booking benefits.
