BAMTech is a streaming video provider and a subsidiary of MLB Advanced Media. Disney owns 33% of BAMTech after paying $1 billion for its stake. With the investment, Disney's ESPN plans to offer a new direct-to-consumer subscription service.
According to gaming website GameSpot, MLB Advanced Media is a partnership between 30 Major League Baseball club owners. The partnership was intended to provide online services for the professional baseball league. The services it provided include the baseball league's main website as well as sites of several MLB clubs.
Starting in 2017, Riot Games and BAMTech will launch new eSports properties for League of Legends. Yahoo Esports reported that the two companies will work together for the monetization and commercialization of the game. Their goal is to deliver League of Legends eSports content world wide.
According to Variety, both companies will work to grow revenue for League of Legends as an eSport through various means, including sponsorship and advertising. BAMTech will handle future distribution of live eSports broadcasts which includes distribution on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.
BAMTech will have exclusive rights to distribute and develop League of Legends eSports tournaments, as well as sell ads and sponsorships. Investment during the first year will involve improvements to the streaming platform and more professional content.
