New York's "Tribute in Light" will shine from dusk until dawn on September 11 to honor those that lost their lives on September 11, 2011's terror attacks.
The lights which have been erected to signify the two fallen World Trade Center towers were created three years ago. The sites website says, "Conceived in the aftermath of the September 11th tragedies, Tribute in Light is a temporary artistic gesture bringing together the vision and talent of numerous individuals who, shortly after the attacks, independently envisioned two beams of light rising from downtown New York. Finding support for their ideas, they joined forces in the spirit of the rescue and recovery effort downtown."
The tribute is in memory of those who lost their lives and a symbol of the spirit of New York City.
On Tuesday September 11 hundreds are gathering at the World Trade Center 9/11 Memorial to honor those that gave their life on that day. There are also events at the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the terror attacks. As per tradition, the names of those who have perished will be read out loud.
Though eleven years have past, the 9/11 attacks will stick with America forever, particularly New York who felt the gravity of the situation head on. Every year on September 11 Americans come together to honor the victims and reflect upon what occurred on that once-sunny September day.
The photos of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center buildings are some of the most intense, heartbreaking yet important photos ever taken. They document a horrific day in history and remain a visual reminder of the day 11 years ago that changed the world forever.
