During winter seasons, wearing boots and thermal jackets are very much important in order to keep your body warm at all times. It is also during the winter season that roads are getting slippery and risky, and thus, proper choice of boots to wear is also necessary.
According to Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University, not all boots that are worn by people are safe today. Some may look safe to wear, but on the other hand, this can be too risky to an icy and slippery environment.
It was because of this, that such institution conducted a test on the different kinds of boots that are commonly worn by people. They had followed certain criteria in order to check the safety and durability of the different brands of boots that are commonly worn on winter time.
There were almost sixty boots that were tested and surprisingly, it was only eight out of sixty that passed the standards set for the test according to RatemyTreads.com. Among the eight, three of which were working boots and the other five were casual boots. The test was called the MAA Test or Maximum Achievable Angle which allowed the participants to use those boots tested on the icy environment.
The WinterLab instructed the participants to walk on the icy steep surface and see what happens right after. In the test, the angle of the slopes increases until such time that the participants slipped. Those boots which passed the highest angle are considered the ideal and safest ones to be used in winter.
Toronto Rehab had also created the so-called "snowflakes scale" in order to rate the slip resistance of the winter footwear. For every winter boots that will get at least a minimum angle of seven degrees will be awarded with one snowflake.
