The world's most iconic Italian plumber has finally made his mobile gaming debut with the release of Nintendo's Super Mario Run. This also marks the very first game for smartphones and tablets released by Nintendo. The game is currently available on iOS and can be played on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, and Android version of the game will be released in 2017.
There are so many questions being asked about this highly anticipated game, so here are a collection of them. First, where can people download it? Since it is currently iOS-exclusive at the moment, the game can be downloaded on the App Store as a free demo. Only the first three levels of the game will be available in the said demo and players who want to experience the full version will be required to make a one-time purchase of $9.99.
Will an internet connection be required to play the game? According to Polygon, players will need an online connection in order to run the game. "Online connectivity allows us to offer a variety of features and services that enhance the play experience", Nintendo said during an interview with Polygon.
The full version of the game comes with 24 courses spanning six different worlds, and this is just for the World Tour Mode. Other game modes include Toad Rally and Kingdom Builder with the latter allowing players to create their own stages in the Mushroom Kingdom.
However, a recent update from Forbes seems to suggest that the game can be beaten in an hour, making it relatively short. But it offers plenty of replay value by way of Toad Rally where players try to rack up as many points as possible while playing head to head against other players to unlock extra prizes.
Unlike previous Mario games where players were required to use both their hands to maneuver the character, Super Mario Run can be played with only one hand. Mario begins each level running straight to the right and players can control his additional actions by tapping the screen with their fingers. Tap the screen once to make Mario jump and tap longer to elevate his jump. The game's controls are really simple and players should be able to pick everything up within the first five minutes.
