Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry is one of the best players in the league and has already been considered by some to be the greatest shooter in the game ever since. One would that with Steph Curry's popularity, he would have been making the same amount of money as Lebron James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis. But, this is not the case because Curry is actually one of the most underpaid players in the league.
However, this could all change by next season when he becomes a free agent as the NBA's new Collective Bargaining Agreement can allow Steph Curry to land a contract worth more than $200 million, according to a report from ESPN. The sharpshooting point guard is currently in the fourth and final year of a 4-year $44 million contract extension.
Reports are now coming in saying that Curry could command a contract worth approximately $207 million, which would make it the largest and most lucrative in league history. The reigning two-time MVP will become a free agent in July 2017 and there is already a good reason to believe he will be re-signing with the Warriors next season.
Under the new rule of the CBA, "certain superstars who are willing to re-sign with their current teams" are eligible to receive approximately 35 percent of the team's overall salary cap, according to ESPN. Certain benchmarks will need to be met, but Curry is a two-time MVP who has played his entire career for one team, and already meet these qualifications.
Curry is set to make $12 million in salary for this season. But if he were to make this deal under the new CBA, then he could nearly triple his salary by earning $35.7 million for the first year. Of course, assuming that the reports of a $102 million salary cap projection for next year are correct. Should Curry sign this deal with the Warriors next year, his estimated earning will be $38.4 million on the second year followed by $41.3 million, $44.4 million, and $47.7 million in the succeeding years, according to Fox Sports.
Steph Curry also expressed his interest with Charlotte Hornets. When asked whether he considers working for the team, Curry said: "it's on my radar." How about that? It is safe to assume that Steph Curry might not be playing for the Golden State next year. But, who know what will happen, so stay tuned!
