Pokémon Go Tips: How to Catch Raichu With A Santa Hat And The 'Disappointing' Christmas Update

The Christmas season means so many things to different people, but for Pokémon Go players it is all about finding some newly released Pokemon. Niantic had just released a special Christmas themed update of the game, which includes the introduction of second generation Pokémon and a limited edition Raichu wearing a Santa hat.

The hat-wearing version of the often overlooked evolved form of Pikachu will only be available until the end of December, so gamers are going to have to exert a bit of effort to secure one before time runs out. According to Game Rant, those who have already managed to capture a Christmas rendition of Pikachu can secure a Santa hat-wearing Raichu for themselves by obtaining enough candies to help the yellow Pokémon evolve into Raichu.

To be more precise, players will need to secure 50 candies to evolve Pikachu. Candies can be obtained by either buddying up or capturing a pre-obtained Pikachu. There have also been reports suggesting that the limited edition Pocket Monster can be spotted roaming the streets, but the chances of encountering one while you walk around town are pretty rare. The holiday event for Pokemon Go will end on December 29, 2016, so players who want to add this limited edition critter to their collection will have to act fast.

While the Christmas update might seem like a great way to encourage gamers to continue going out on the streets to hunt for Pokemon, overall fan reaction to it has been a bit negative. Forbes calls the Pokémon Go Christmas update "disappointing" partly due to the small number of second generation Pokémon that were released. Fans who were expecting at least a hundred new Pokémon to pop into their games only received seven of them.

There are also many players who are already close to reaching the end of the game and are finding very little to do. Many players had already felt that the game was still in need of some work when it first got released. The game is currently ranked second in app stores worldwide. While this is not something to complain about, it is still a fall from grace for an app that once for nearly 50 percent of mobile purchases.
