After Illumination Entertainment's "Despicable Me," "Despicable Me 2," and "Minions" garnered commercial success which moved them to make another sequel. "Despicable Me 3" has been confirmed to hit theaters in 2017. Its trailer has been released introducing the new villain named Balthazar Bratt.
Gru and his wife Lucy are also coming back with a mission to stop the new evil villain. Fans are now looking forward to the adventures that the couple will experience while battling with the bad guys.
Who is the new villain?
"Despicable Me 3" will introduce a new character named Balthazar Bratt, played by Trey Parker. The villain is a former child star who is obsessed with the character he played in the '80s.
In the trailer, the new villain may remind some people of Michael Jackson because the hit song "Bad" playing on the background. The character seems to be wearing a spinoff of Miami Vice as he sports a purple suit, shoulder pads, fat top/mullet combo, and mustache. In the video, viewers note that the weapon of Bratt is a bubble gum.
After the trailer was released, the opinions about "Despicable Me 3" are divided. Some people expressed their annoyance and were not happy about the sequel because there are less appearances of the Minions. Aside from that, people also complain why Gru's cute daughters, Agnes, Margo, and Edith did not appear on the trailer.
"There's an ironic backlash on the Internet against the really overwhelming marketing campaign." said Katie Notopolous told AdWeek, a self-proclaimed Minions expert and Buzzfeed editor.
Meanwhile, Steve Carell reprises his role as Gru, fraternal twin brother of Dr. Dru. "Ghostbusters" star Kristen Wiig also reprised her role as Gru's wife and secret agent, Lucy, E Online reports.
Miranda Cosgrove and Dana Gaier also return as the couple's three daughters. Of course, the Minions also return, and they actually appeared in the last part of the trailer.
