Disney Channel's popular teen series, "Girl Meets World," is moving to an earlier time schedule beginning January 2017. When season 3 returns on Friday, January 6, it will be airing its three remaining episodes in the 6:00 p.m. time slot, until the finale episode on Jan. 20. Does this mean that the show will be cancelled after season 3?
Nick and more confirmed the change in time slot for "Girl Meets World", and that the revamp is to see if ratings will pick up. The show is said to have gotten a drop in viewership, which caused fans to think that the show will really be cancelled after this season.
The special episode on January 6 is entitled "World Meets Girl" and is dubbed as "interactive" where fans' questions will be answered by the cast and crew, TV Maze reports. Interestingly, the title of season 3's final season is titled "Girl Meets Goodbye," fuelling more talks regarding the cancellation.
This is not the first time that "Girl Meets World" faces cancellation rumors. Some say that the plot of the spinoff series from ABC's coming of age sitcom "Boy Meets World" is becoming too mature for Disney Channel's audience target.
For those who are die-hard fans of the show, there are two petitions that you can sign at change.org to ask for a fourth season of "Girl Meets World," MNR Daily said. The first petition already has 17,000 signatures, while the second has almost 50,000. The first petition is asking Disney to renew the series, while the second one is requesting Freeform to pick up the series in case Disney decides to let go of "Girl Meets World."
However, other sources claim that show stars Sabrina Carpenter and Rowan Blanchard were spotted filming in New York. Disney is yet to make an official announcement about the show's fate, so for now, all of these are really just speculations.
