iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple Sends Invitations for Special Announcement Event on September 12

Apple has announced that the iPhone 5 release date will be revealed during an event on September 12. Apple has sent out invitations to media outlets to an event in which it is believed that the iPhone 5 will finally be revealed and the release date will be announced.

Media outlets are being sent an invitation to an event at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco on September 12. The invitation doesn't mention the iPhone 5 exclusively, but in the graphic on the invitation, there is a giant "5" in the shadow of the September 12 event date.

This has media outlets believing that Apple will be revealing the long awaited iPhone 5. It is expected that the iPhone 5 release date will then be announced for September 21 and customers will be able to pre-order the phone starting Sept. 12.

Verizon and AT&T, which both carry the iPhone, have set a vacation blackout for their employees starting September 21 so that all employees can be around to deal with the madness that will ensue when the new iPhone hits stores.

It is also believed that Apple will unveil a new iPad mini at the September 12 event.

According to rumors, the iPhone 5 will have a two-tone design, a smaller 9-pin dock connector, 4G LTE, a slightly taller 4-inch display and a headphone jack on the bottom rather than on the top.

Last year, the iPhone 4S was announced on Oct. 4 and the device hit stores 10 days later on Oct. 14. According to the new iPhone 5 release date rumors, the phone would come out nine days after it is revealed.

Last month, there were some rumors swirling around Twitter that the new iPhone could cost $800, but these rumors were not confirmed.
