Lufthansa Airlines Strike at Frankfurt Airport in Germany Cases Hundreds of Delays

A strike in Germany by cabin crew at Lufthansa airlines has disrupted hundreds of flights, Friday.

The strike led to long lines of stranded passengers at Frankfurt airport, which is Germany's largest airport and a major hub for International travel.

Lufthansa was forced to cancel a large part of its 360 flights scheduled for the first half of Friday.

The strike affected mostly inner-European connections and domestic flights but the airline also canceled flights to Frankfurt from Boston, Philadelphia and Atlanta.

It is estimated that thousands of people are estimated to be delayed or stuck at Frankfurt airport.

A Fraport spokesperson which is the Frankfurt Airport operator said to NBC News, "Because we were anticipating a problem with aircraft parking positions at our airport, we temporarily -- for about 20 to 30 minutes -- asked other German and European airports to discontinue take-offs of inbound flights to Frankfurt

"This does and did not affect any transcontinental flights or any aircrafts that are presently in the air."

The demands for the strike include a 5 percent pay increase and a guarantee that Lufthansa will not outsource jobs. Lufthansa has said it will offer a 3.5 percent raise. The union called a strike after 13 months of negotiations for higher pay.
