"Train To Busan" gained a lot of following all over the world. It is no wonder that South Korea's First Zombie Film gets numerous offers for a Hollywood remake.
The filming rights to Korean Zombie film are being pursued by Gaumont, Canal Plus, and EuropaCorp, according to Hollywood Reporter. However, French studio Gaumont is set to film "Train To Busan" remake. The movie deal was announced last Wednesday by Gaumont and Next Entertainment World (NEW), the film's Korean distributor and producer. Since the film's release on July 22, it gained about $99,067,452 inbox office for worldwide release.
"We are more than happy to start our business with Gaumont, one of the greatest film companies with rich experience in terms of global projects," said Kim Woo-taek, CEO of NEW. "We hope this opportunity could let Korean films get more attention and be familiar with the audience all over the world," he added further.
"Train To Busan" is a 2016 South Korean zombie apocalypse horror thriller starred by Gong Yoo and directed by Yeong Sang-ho, a critically acclaimed animator who makes his first live-action debut with this zombie film. The movie is about a couple of train passengers trying to survive on the train and fighting for their lives while traveling from Seoul to Busan as a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea. It was released in Cannes Film Festival in May and gained a lot of positive reviews.
Gaumont was reported to have been particularly interested in filming an English version of the film. "There seem to be more ways for French filmmakers and audiences to relate to the story," said Danny Lee, from Content Pandas. "Because bullet trains are a big part of daily life there, as in Korea," he added further.
There is still no confirmation from the studio and the producers regarding the cast, key staff and production schedules for the "Train To Busan" Hollywood Remake. But Gaumont's Head of International Production and Distribution, Cecile Gaget, announced that they are in touch with a number of prominent directors and Hollywood talent agencies. The film will also set in place in the USA.
