With the intention to move away from dessert coffees like seasonally flavored lattes and Frappuccinos, Starbucks works toward a more "artisan" coffee image by adding the "Cascara Latte" to its menu. On Wednesday, it has been announced by Starbucks during its Biennial Investor Conference in New York that the new beverage is the first latte in 2017, Today reported.
According to a Starbucks spokesperson, cascara means "shell" or "husk" in Spanish, referring to a coffee cherry's fruity outer skin, which is the fruit that surrounds the bean of the coffee. While we were told we can't order one until early January, the Starbucks spokesperson said the cascara latte lends the classic espresso of Starbucks. The drink promises slightly sweet, darker flavors like maple and brown sugar, while still giving the coffee lovers the classic refined taste of espresso.
Since Starbucks joins the coffee purist movement, coffee lovers assume that the cascara latte is much like its new Cold Brew and Latte Macchiato, which leans heavily on the espresso flavor. The new latte is part of the company's larger effort to make its brew the main focus of beverages. Aside from the new Cascara Latte, it has been announced that Starbuck's Smoked Butterscotch Latte (which first debuted last February), would be making a triumphant return, Teen Vogue reported.
Starbucks certainly has no scarcity of new ideas when it comes to innovation of its beverages. Earlier this month, Starbucks found a way to make hot cocoa much sweeter by giving it a twist. On Wednesday, rumors began spreading that it would soon release a new Frappuccino featuring both blackberry and raspberry as part of a Pokémon Go promotion.
No matter what we'll go through in 2017, weathering them will definitely be a lot easier with delicious drinks from the giant coffee chain in hand. Kudos to Starbucks!
