Australian Tourist Crashes the Set of 'Gossip Girl' in New York City

An Australian tourist who happens to be a major fan of the show "Gossip Girl" had the experience of a lifetime during a trip to New York. The 26-year-old woman hoped to catch a glimpse of her favorite stars of the show, but she found herself being mistaken for an extra on the set and got to become a part of the filming for a day.

Kate Robertson, who watches the show religiously, wanted to see her favorite "Gossip Girl" stars while in New York, so she headed to the Waldorf Astoria on Aug. 21, where the show is often filmed in hopes that she would see someone noteworthy. She waited outside the hotel after not seeing anyone, she decided to sneak in.

Robertson entered the hotel, telling staff that she had a reservation for the hotel restaurant Peacock Alley. She then took the elevators up to the Grand Ballroom where she was lucky enough to find the cast filming.

"I just couldn't believe that I had gotten that far without anyone noticing," the 26-year-old told the Daily News. "I sat down and I just waited for someone to tell me to leave."

Despite only wearing a maxi-dress and flip flops, while the other extras were dressed up in tuxedos and ball gowns and were covered in sparkling jewelry, crew members didn't ask Robertson to leave.

In fact, she became a part of the cotillion ball set. She was handed a champagne flute and the next thing she knew she was sitting in a chair for hair and makeup. A hairdresser swept her hair up into a chic bun and Robertson spent the next six hours as an extra partygoer for the scene that will be featured in the sixth and final season of the show.

"It was really amazing to see," Robertson said. "But it was tedious work. They did retake after retake."

Robertson got to get close to cast members like the handsome Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg).

Paul Hewitt, the senior vice president of the CW Network's publicity department, noted that fans often try to see the stars filming, but he couldn't comment on this particular incident.

"Fans show up at our things all the time," Hewitt told the Daily News. "Especially when our shows go out on location."

It is common for fans to show up on location and there is even an organized tour run by On Location tours that take fans around the city to show them the various sites where the show is filmed.

Robertson had even more excitement when she met her favorite character Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) at bar in Brooklyn, later on in the week. She even told him about her set crashing adventure.

"I nearly died, I just couldn't believe it," she said of meeting Westwick who laughed at the story of her adventure.

Robertson is continuing her stay in New York City and hopes to catch some more television show filming such as HBO's "Girls." Perhaps she'll get lucky again and television viewers will see Robertson's face in the background of other shows.

She sure hopes so.

"I am hoping for more accidental run-ins and more accidental acting jobs," Robertson told News.Com.Au.
