A couple is suing United Continental for "extreme and outrageous" conduct due to an incident that involved a sex toy taped to their luggage. The gay couple, Christopher Bridgeman and Martin Borger of Norfolk, Virginia are suing for damages caused by "intentional infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy and negligence." The law suit was filed on Friday.
United has countered the claim and with a thorough investigation determined that there was no proof or support of the allegations against the airline. Christen David, a spokeswoman for the airline said in a statement, "United does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. We will vigorously defend ourselves and our employees."
On May 21 the couple say they were returning from a vacation in Costa Rica and flying back to Norfolk with a 90 minute layover in Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
When the couple arrived in Norfolk and went to the baggage claim, they couple found that the dildo had been removed from the bag, covered in a "greasy foul smelling substance" and taped to the top of the bag.
Borger said to NBC News, "I knew exactly what it was when I saw it. I was absolutely and utterly shocked and embarrassed and humiliated and I didn't even know what to do at the time."
They claimed that people in the airport started laughing when they saw the bag and caused the men emotional trauma, according to the lawsuit.
Bridgeman,34, believes that the incident was intentional. He believes that an airline worker found the sex toy, saw that it belonged to a man and wanted to humiliate the owner. He also believes it was done because they are gay. He said to NBC, "I absolutely, fervently believe that this was intentional. It was very sick and it was very wrong and it was just maliciously taped to the top and targeted because we're gay."
