The year 2016 proved to be full of ups and down for Selena Gomez. Amidst all the tour cancellations, health problems and Instagram spat with Justin Beiber, she is hailed as Instagram Queen the second time in a row.
The "Good For You" singer is the most followed celebrity in Instagram, according to CNET. She now has a whopping 104m followers and counting in the popular photo and video sharing site. Selena's Coca-Cola ad, which the singer posted on Instagram garnered 5.9 million likes.
Gomez previously overtook the lead on social media personalities and celebrities like Kim Kardashian who has 88.7 million Instagram followers. She even topped over her BFF, Taylor Swift, who has a strong 94.3 million followers herself.
Other famous celebrities on the top of Instagram popular bandwagon are queen bee "Lemonade" singer Beyonce with 89.7 million followers, "Side to Side" singer Ariana Grande (90.9 million) and also lone-male Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo with 83.5 million followers.
It is quite impressive for the Selena Gomez to still hold the crown for the second time in a row given that she took a social media hiatus for more than three months. But though the singer does not post that often, she can safely say that she has one of the most loyal and engaged fans.
She even mentioned how thankful she was for her fans in her emotional speech at the AMAs 2016, which is her first media appearance after her short career sabbatical. Her short vacation from the limelight is in line with her treatment for her Lupus Condition. Selena Gomez health struggles were one of the highlights during her interview on Ellen DeGeneres show.
Days before her break, the singer got into a social media falling-out with ex-boyfriend and "Let Me Love You" singer Justin Beiber in middle of this year. Both celebs were throwing shades at each other. This also resulted to Beiber deleting his Instagram account in August.
