Google released its highly anticipated Nexus 7 Android tablet in France, Spain and Germany on Monday after being on the market in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia in July.
The tablet can be attained in those countries at the Google Play store and costs €199 or $250 for the 8GB and €249 or $312 for the 16 GB in France, Spain and Germany.
The tablet was unveiled by Google in late June at a developer conference in San Francisco. The reasonable price tag, compared to competitors like the Apple iPad are an obvious draw. It's other competitor Amazon's Kindle Fire is also extremely popular, but the Nexus is gaining popularity amongst these.
The 16GB version of the tablet sold out in its first weekend and has been extremely well received.
The Nexus 7 is powered by the Android 4.1, Jelly Belly which is the latest version of the most popular mobile platform. The Nexus 7's website states, " With smarter notifications, beautiful new widgets and home screen customization that's as easy as drag-and-drop - Android is faster and more intuitive than ever."
On August 28, Google went for a bit of self-promotion with its main search page promoting the Nexus 7. This is something Google rarely does. Last year however, Google ran a link on its homepage promoting a deal for a free Nexus S and also advertised on Google+.
Google also had adds for the Motorola Droid in 2009, with a Google homepage add that said, "The Droid is on sale now. Learn More," According to CNET.
Google hasn't stated how long the photo of the 7-inch tablet peaking through on the main homepage of google.com will last and whether or not it is the beginning of an advertising campaign for the tablet.
