With the release of "jack-less" iPhone 7, people all over the world were left scratching their heads. But, it now looks like Samsung is going to continue that trend as well. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 could become the next smartphone to ditch headphone jacks.
According to reports from SamMobile, Samsung is hoping to rebound and gain back some momentum after their Galaxy Note 7 blow up, literally. Many consumers really were not that excited about Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack on iPhone 7. However, Motorola also followed with their latest Moto Z release without the familiar jack that many smartphone users have grown accustomed to.
It seems like Samsung is making this move with the Galaxy S8 to keep up with one of the latest trends in the tech industry, but at the same time, this will not make them stand out and make people forget about their flaming Galaxy Note 7. The absence of an audio jack means users will have to listen to their music and audio files through wireless Bluetooth earphones or any headphones that are compatible with the device's USB Type-C port.
Samsung first debuted the Type-C port in the now discontinued Galaxy Note 7, which is designed to allow faster transfer of data files between devices and faster charging time. Some industry insiders believe that the Korean-based tech company made the decision to remove the audio jack so the phone could have more space for a bigger battery.
A teardown of the device which was reported by CNET revealed that the Note 7 did not give the battery enough "physical room for error", which could have been one of the causes for it to explode. In addition to not having an audio jack, the Galaxy S8 is also rumored to not have a home button. It is unknown when will Samsung plans on launching the S8, but many believe it will be launched during the World Mobile Congress scheduled to take place this February.
