Orlando Named A Top Winter Destination In The US

With its year-long sunny weather, upscale quality of life and tons of theme parks and attractions, it's not surprising that Orlando, Florida was ranked as the top winter travel destination in the US by TripAdvisor, one of the world's leading travel and booking sites.

Currently known as the City Beautiful, Orlando is the perfect place to spend a winter getaway. Aside from being the location of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are heaps of other cool places to go to, and other really fun activities. Orlando is home to 100 lakes, like Lake Eola, and it also offers 100 parks and 21 community centers that offer camps and various social programs, according to cityoforlando.net

Orlando is also a really family-friendly place. Orlando's top-notch theme parks such as LEGOLAND, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Universal Studios Florida are basically heaven for kids and kids at heart. This Florida City is also one of the world's largest golf destinations-with several beautiful courses. Numerous shopping centers and dining options are also available, fit to cater whatever you need.

The mild weather of Orlando is also one of the reasons people choose this place for winter vacations. According to weather.com, the average winter high for Orlando is 72 degrees, with less than five nights below freezing per year. This makes this place more suitable to visit in the winter rather than in the summer, where hot months from March-April are a little uncomfortable.

TripAdvisor also took into account the average cost for a week visit and search interest such as accommodations, air travel expense, food and tours. The cheapest winter week in Orlando is from January 16-22, relatively cheaper than March 13-19, its most expensive week.

TripAdvisor also said that a guest can spend $150 per night in a hotel, $330 on air travel, $23 per meal, and $76 for tours on average. With this, Orlando beat other places such as Las Vegas and Cancun, Mexico.

Brooke Ferencsik, TripAdvior's senior director of communications said in a press release, "Americans thinking past the holidays and booking their winter vacations may want to consider traveling soon after the New Year, when some of the best rates are available."

He added that visitors that visit during mid-late January can save an average of 16 percent, compared to visiting in February-March. Click here if you want to see the full list of today's top winter travel destinations by TripAdvisor.
