Some merry content seems to be in store for Overwatch. A possible Yuletide motif for Blizzard's shooter would truly be a merry event. A number of discovered Overwatch sound files are providing a hint at a forthcoming occasion. A Christmas theme tune was uncovered among several data files of the game. The Christmas jingle that was found now has generated a lot of attention.
Officially, a Yuletide event for Overwatch has not yet been announced by Blizzard. According to gaming website GameSpot, some data miners have essentially verified it by releasing the Christmas-inspired Overwatch theme tune on Reddit. Those Overwatch data miners uncovered the Yuletide theme in game files. Gaming website PC Gamer reported that several of the discovered audio files, which contained sound bites of Overwatch heroes as well as sound effects, were posted on Reddit.
One of those files strongly support the notion of a coming Christmas event. According to gaming website Eurogamer, now the world knows the sound of the game's theme tune reimagined with a merry twist. Blizzard has held Summer Games and Halloween events in the past for Overwatch with a change in form and function to correspond to those holidays. Since there have been Summer Games and Halloween Overwatch events, Blizzard is expected to celebrate Christmas with another Overwatch event.
Although Overwatch events celebrating holidays are to be expected since Blizzard has held these in the past and game files gave an undeniable clue that a Christmas themed event would be coming, Blizzard has not announced anything yet officially. The announcement of a Christmas event would not be the most surprising thing to happen but right now everything is just pure speculation on the part of fans.
The game files that revealed the Christmas tunes were part of the recent build release for the Overwatch Public Test Realm. The Public Test Realm is where Blizzard can thoroughly test changes that have been introduced with the latest build, before adding them to the official public builds.
