Hurricane Isaac 2012: Threatening GOP Republican Convention in Florida [VIDEO]

Hurricane Isaac, which is making its way to Florida, has the potential of hitting the Republican convention. GOP officials may have to make the choice to tell delegates to stay away from the convention or cancel part of it until news is fully accurate to where the hurricane or tropical storm may hit.

The opening night session, where Ann Romney is set to speak, may have to be canceled as well as a few days after depending on the severity of the storm.

No decisions have been made yet but a convention official has said, who remained anonymous, that a decision could happen as early as Friday.

"Gov. Scott and local emergency officials have assured us that they have the resources in place to respond to this storm should it make landfall, as our primary concern is with those in the potential path of the storm," Chief Executive William Harris said to the Los Angeles Times. "We will continue to work closely with them and federal officials to monitor the storm and discuss any impact it might have on the Tampa area and the state of Florida. We continue to move forward with our planning and look forward to a successful convention."

For Romney, this was a major part of his campaign and it could do detrimental damage if it doesn't go through. According to national opinion surveys more voters have a negative impression of Romney than a positive one so taking advantage of the GOP convention could help his campaign.

To date, the storm is forecasted to hit Tampa by late Sunday which is a night before the convention is set to take place. The worst weather is supposed to occur on Monday night and Tuesday which could hamper plans at the convention.

Forecasts show that the storm is going to cross Cuba on Sunday and then gain strength as it enters the Gulf of Mexico, Monday.

Airlines could also start canceling flights to Florida, which would make it difficult for the thousands of delegates and journalist to reach the site.

For now, convention officials will have to wait to see what path the storm takes, which is fickle and often hard to determine.
