Those who attended the Olympics may have had an unpleasant airport experience as London's Luton Airport was named the rudest airport in the UK according to a survey. Out of the European airports, Paris' Charles De Gaulle as found to be the rudest.
Travel search site Skyscanner asked about 500 travelers to rate airport in the UK and Europe based on the friendliness of their staff. The survey found that check-in staff are the most unpleasant at all airports, while those at security and in restaurants and stores are among the friendliest airport staff members.
Luton wasn't the only London airport that was found to have the rudest staff. In fact London's airports topped the list as the rudest. Four of the five rudest airports serve London, including Heathrow. London City Airport just missed the top five rudest airport list at number six.
"Customers travelling in and out of Heathrow faced quite a few problems during the Olympics with ex-employees being drafted in, many of whom had only completed basic training. Clearly there is still room for improvement, " Victoria Bailie of Skyscanner said.
The survey asked people who have flown over the past 12 months to rate the airports from one being the rudest to 10 as the friendliest. Luton received a score of 5.76, with Stansted following with a score of 5.89. Heathrow scored a 5.94, Gatwick received a 6.26 and Birmingham scored a 6.39.
The respondents found Edinburgh to be the friendliest airport, giving it a score of 7.41, with Newcastle following with a 7.34 score. Manchester took the third friendliest spot with a 6.87. Norther Ireland's Belfast International and Belfast City ranked fourth and fifth respectively for their friendliness.
Out of the European airports, the respondents found Paris' busiest airport, Charles De Gaulle with over 60 million passengers a year, to have the rudest staff. The French airport received the lowest score at 4.86 points, making it the rudest. This also correlates with another survey that found the French to be the rudest people in the world.
Moscow received a 5.03 score and Istanbul came in as third rudest with a 5.91.
The friendliest European airport was Copenhagen with a score of 7.08 followed by Amsterdam, which received a 6.92.
"We like to have a good moan and grumble but overall, the average scores were positive for UK's airports," Bailie said. "Despite the summer rush, they've clearly been doing a good job to help kick start our holiday on a positive note."
