Missing a stop on a bus or a train can be a minor inconvenience during a day, but missing a stop on a plane can lead to an 18-hour non-stop round trip. One women found that out after falling asleep on her flight.
French woman Patrice Christine Ahmed boarded a flight from the Pakistani city of Lahore to Paris, but after several hours of flying, she wound up right back in Lahore as she fell asleep, missing her stop in the French capital.
Now Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the French subcontractor that handles passengers in Paris is leading an investigation to figure out now no one noticed the woman sleeping on the plan during the two-hour stop at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
"We have put questions to this French firm also about the incident but it is also the responsibility of the passenger to disembark at the destination," airline spokesman Sultan Hasan told AFP.
Ahmed fell asleep and didn't get off the plane at her stop. She didn't mention the mistake to the crew until immigration officials stopped her when she arrived back at Lahore on Wednesday after a 7,700-mile round trip.
"It is a passenger's responsibility to check about the destination and disembark when the plane arrives at the particular airport."
PIA made arrangements to send Ahmed back to Paris with another airline as none of their flight were available at the time. Those responsible for the mishap have to pay for the extra flight.
"It depends who is at fault. If it is a mistake by the local firm, they will pay and if the woman herself is responsible than she will have to bear the cost," Hasan said.
