Yu Wenxia from China was crowned the 2102 Miss World. The 23-year old who claims to have a passion for music and wants to work with the poor was crowned Miss World at the ceremony in Inner Mongolia, Saturday.
She wore a sparkling blue gown and stood in front of the audience, waving at the Dongsheng Stadium in Ordos which is located in China's Inner Mongolian region.
This is the second time that China has won Miss World with the last time being 2007 when Zhang Zilin was crowned.
The first runner up was Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and the second runner up was Jessica Michelle Kahawaty from Australia.
Yu Wenxia is a music student who says she has hopes of becoming a music teacher. Wenxia beat out 115 other contestants. "When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky," said Yu when asked why she should be crowned.
Last years winner Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela handed over the crown to Yu Wenxia. The final was watched worldwide with an estimated one billion viewers.
This is the first time that Ordos in Inner Mongolia has hosted the beauty pageant. The city hopes that hosting events like Miss World will raise its profile for tourism and economic development.
